Major 7.1-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Chile

A major 7.1-magnitude earthquake has hit Chile, the U.S. Geological Survey reports.

The epicenter is located about 45 miles northwest of Temuco (370 miles southwest of Santiago). Officials at the airport in Temuco felt the quake, but no damage has been reported, according to NBC News. No tsunami warning has been issued at this time.

Last February, an 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck about 200 miles south of Santiago, causing widespread damage.
